A REScheck report is the U.S. Department of Energy's official residential energy compliance document. It uses the REScheck software to perform a UA (thermal transmittance × area) calculation that proves your building's thermal envelope meets the minimum energy efficiency requirements of the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC).
Most jurisdictions require a REScheck report before they'll issue a building permit for new construction, additions, and alterations to the thermal envelope. If your building department says "you need energy compliance documentation," they almost certainly mean a REScheck.
Here's what most people don't know: not all REScheck reports are equal. A report produced by a $79 service using incorrect inputs, outdated code versions, or without professional verification can be — and frequently is — rejected by the permit office. Every report we prepare is personally signed by a certified RESNET HERS Rater and ICC Plans Examiner with a professional letter of compliance. That's what separates a report that passes from one that sends you back to square one.
New Construction
Required for virtually all new residential builds in IECC-adopting states. Proves your insulation, windows, and HVAC meet the code year your jurisdiction has adopted.
Additions & Alterations
Adding a room or renovating? Many permit offices require a REScheck for additions of any size that affect the thermal envelope. We handle partial compliance scenarios too.
Window & Door Replacements
Replacing more than a couple of windows or doors often triggers a permit requirement — and a REScheck to verify the new units meet IECC fenestration standards.
Rejected Reports
Got a rejection from your permit office? We fix rejected REScheck reports every week. Call us — we'll find the problem and get you a report that passes.
From first contact to permit-ready report — here's exactly how it works.

Your report lands in your inbox ready to submit to your building department. Pay only after you receive it. Free revisions for life of the project.
Pay after deliveryThe 2024 IECC introduced the most significant changes to residential energy code compliance in years — including a new Component Performance Alternative (replacing the UA tradeoff method), tighter fenestration requirements, and an expanded efficiency credit system. States are adopting it now.
⚠️ This is why cheap REScheck services fail you
Services operating on outdated code years, incorrect climate zone data, or improper software inputs produce reports that building departments reject. A $79 rejection costs you far more than a properly done report from the start.
2024 IECC — Component Performance Alternative
New thermal conductance (TC) calculation methodology. We know it inside out and have processed reports under 2024 since day one.
State-Specific Code Amendments
Every state that adopts the IECC may add its own amendments. We track these for all 50 states so your report reflects local requirements.
Climate Zone Accuracy
Using the wrong climate zone is one of the most common reasons reports fail. We verify zone assignments against DOE data before every report.
All IECC Code Years: 2015, 2018, 2021, 2024
We prepare reports for all current and recent code years. Whether your AHJ is still on 2018 or just adopted 2024, we've got you covered.
Signed Professional Letter Included
Every report includes a signed letter on professional letterhead from a certified HERS Rater and ICC Plans Examiner — the credential many jurisdictions now require.
